Tell King County Lawmakers: Invest in Wage Equity

King County residents have an opportunity to take action in support of higher wages for human service workers. The King County Veterans, Seniors and Human Services Levy (VSHSL) is the main source of funding King County provides to our human service infrastructure. The six year levy is about to expire.

King County voters will vote on its renewal in the August 1 primary. Lawmakers are currently debating what changes should be made to this levy before sending it to voters for approval. To meet the equity goals laid out by King County lawmakers, we recommend that the levy be set at .12c/$1000 assessed home value.

In the next few weeks, the Regional Policy Council and King County Council will finalize the levy, including amendments to the version Executive Constantine proposed. The current proposal would maintain the levy at its current rate of .10c per $1000 in assessed home value. This will be insufficient to address the rising costs of providing services due to inflation, and will perpetuate low wages for our human service workforce.
