Testify in Support of Human Service Funding!
On September 26, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell unveiled his 2024 budget package. The mayor's budget includes significant investments in human service worker wages. It funds not only a 7.5% inflation adjustment, but an additional 2% wage equity increase too!
With historic wage investments included in the mayor's budget, it is now up to the city council to ensure these increases end up in the final version of the city budget. We also encourage the council to identify a sustainable funding source to ensure this 2% increase is funded in perpetuity.
SHSC members are mobilizing to testify on the following dates:
Wednesday, October 11 at 10am
Wednesday, October 18 at 5pm
Friday, October 27 at 10am
To register for virtual public comment, sign in using this link beginning two hours before the meeting starts. Public comment sign up is first come, first serve so we encourage you to register as soon as possible the day you plan to attend. You may also give public testimony in-person by signing up at the council chambers 15 minutes before the start of the meeting (600 4th Ave, Seattle WA 98104).
Once you register, you will receive instructions on how to call into the meeting to give testimony. Testifiers are given two minutes; however you may be cut off or asked to shorten your remarks to one minute depending on the number of people signed up.
Because of this, we encourage you to create both a one and two minute version of your remarks. We also encourage you to time yourself with a stopwatch, and practice your script in the mirror a couple of times.
