Identifying Institutional Racism Folio
In 1999-2001, SHSC sponsored the 2020 Vision Campaign which brought together over a thousand human services providers, participants from funders, faith-based communities, and recipients of services, youth, neighborhood

groups and government to define the shared vision of the community we are all working toward. Participants agreed one of the tenets for change was that

  • Racism must no longer exist and policies that perpetuate racism must be eliminated
  • Organize and train human service provider to recognize institutional racism and remove racist barriers that inhibit access to services.
In fall 2003, SHSC initiated the IDIR project to create an assessment tool and guide to recognize institutional racism within human service organizations and remove the barriers within an organization.

IDIR FOLIO

As a result of our collaborative effort and commitment to eliminating institutionalized racism - we have developed the IDIR folio, which was created to help guide and asses an agency or program to help identify racism within the organization and provide tools to work toward eliminating it.

ANTI-RACISM SURVEY POLICY SURVEY

Many human service organizations are eager to learn what other agencies are doing to address institutional racism that is built into our organizations.

To help with that, the SHSC Steering Committee is sending out this link to a three-question survey. These will be the questions:

(1) Does your organization have an anti-racism plan or policy?

(2) If so, what is it?

(3) What are you doing organizationally to support/implement that policy?

We hope you will be intrinsically motivated to go to the survey and send in your answers, but we do have a carrot to offer: If you complete these questions and include your e-mail contact info, we will e-mail you a list of the summary of ideas to help you further your work. These will not be attributed to people or organizations unless you actively express your desire to have it attributed to your organization.
