Human Services Coalition (SHSC)
is a multi-racial, multi-cultural community of over 265 human
service agencies and concerned individuals committed to helping
Seattle-King County residents to meet their basic human needs.
We developed our first shared Agenda for Meeting Human Needs
20 years ago. Together, we work to shape public policy to
help people meet their basic human needs, including such issues
as homelessness, hunger, domestic violence, childcare, literacy,
aging, disabilities, sexual assault, health care, employment,
racial equity, and child/ youth development. |

| In
an effort to assist our Coalition members, their constituents,
and the public in 2007 elections, SHSC launched our 2007
Human Services Voter Guide.
We asked each candidate running for Seattle City Council and
King County Council (districts within City of Seattle, only)
to fill out a survey addressing human services, housing, and
poverty in Seattle. The survey was developed by our 12 member
Coalitions and co-sponsors. We also presented each candidate
with our 20th
Anniversary Agenda for Meeting Human Needs (pdf file)
- a compilation of human needs issues as identified by Coalition
members. |

| On
October 11th SHSC and their co-sponsors hosted the 10th Biennial
Candidates Forum, where Seattleites had the opportunity to
face the candidates who still remain in the race and gauge
their commitment to helping our residents to meet their basic
human needs. Click
