Starting in 1993, each year, we encourage agencies and individuals to acknowledge the work of those who have touched their life and others through their advocacy, dedication, and effort to make a difference in human services in one or more of the award categories: " Outstanding Organization/Program " Excellence in Advocacy " Innovative Program " Stewardship " The Ron Chisom Anti Racism Award (new in 2007) In addition to these five awards, one SHSC member coalition is requested to provide the name of an individual or program to be the recipient of the City of Seattle Mayor's Award.

Mayor's Award & Proclamation:

Adrienne Wingo

 
Long time advocate for children and early learning programs, Adrienne Wingo has worked tirelessly to help improve the quality of care for early learners in King County through mentorship and inspiring others to engage in activities giving children a political voice in local, state and national arenas.

Outstanding Organization Award:
St. Vincent de Paul Society of Seattle/King County
 
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVPD) has been serving those in need since 1920 providing the most basic needs for survival. SVDP's outreach includes home visits, case management, food and meal programs, thrift stores, eviction prevention and more.

The Ron Chisom Anti-Racism Award:
YWCA of Seattle | King County | Snohomish County
 
The YWCA recognizes that racism exists and remains embedded in all public and private institutions central to our society and has a humble yet aggressive commitment to take action. Through the establishment of the agency wide Race and Social Justice Initiatives, the YWCA develops anti-racism strategies to consistently evaluate their programs and progress.

Innovative Program Award:
Pathways to Wellness
 
Pathways to Wellness is an innovative collaboration project with the purpose of providing mental health screening, referral, community outreach and education services to refugees to aid in their overall emotional well-being during resettlement.

Jim McDermott
 
Congressman Jim McDermott has been a steadfast supporter of human services programs and tireless advocate for social justice for decades, consistently spearheading legislation that supports programs that help our community members meet their basic human needs while at the same time working for policies to reduce poverty, racism and other forms of inequality.

Excellence in Advocacy:
Remy Trupin

 

With a strong history of advocating for low income people and others in need and through his leadership at the WA State Budget and Policy Center, Remy Trupin has helped shift the dialogue on several key state budget and tax issues, including the Working Families Tax Rebate, the corporate tax "giveaways", and the impact of statewide initiatives on low and moderate income families.
